France's Macron Dissolves Parliament, Calls for Snap Election

President Aims to Regain Majority After Legislative Setback

French President Emmanuel Macron has dissolved the country's parliament, the National Assembly, and called for a snap parliamentary election. The move comes after Macron's centrist party suffered a major setback in legislative elections held in June, losing its majority in the lower house.

Macron said that the dissolution of parliament and the snap election were necessary to "restore the trust of the French people" and "end the blocking situation" in the National Assembly. He called on voters to give him a "clear and unambiguous majority" to implement his reform agenda.

The snap election will be held on June 9, 2024. Macron's party, Ensemble, is expected to face a stiff challenge from the left-wing alliance Nupes and the far-right National Rally party. The outcome of the election will have a significant impact on Macron's ability to govern and implement his policies in the remaining two years of his presidency.
