RB Leipzig crush Hoffenheim; Union Berlin edge past Nürnberg
RB Leipzig and 1. FC Union Berlin secured their places in the DFB-Pokal semifinals with dominant victories on Tuesday.
Leipzig thrashed TSG Hoffenheim 4-0 at the Red Bull Arena, while Union Berlin narrowly defeated Nürnberg 2-1 at the Stadion An der Alten Försterei.
Leipzig took the lead against Hoffenheim through Dominik Szoboszlai's stunning free-kick in the 19th minute.
Yussuf Poulsen doubled Leipzig's advantage just before the break, and André Silva made it 3-0 in the 51st minute.
Emil Forsberg completed the scoring for Leipzig in the 84th minute, securing a comfortable victory for the Bundesliga leaders.
Union Berlin faced a tougher challenge against Bundesliga 2 side Nürnberg, but ultimately prevailed thanks to goals from Sheraldo Becker and Jamie Leweling.
Becker opened the scoring for Union Berlin in the 25th minute, but Nürnberg equalized through Christoph Daferner just before halftime.
Leweling scored the winning goal for Union Berlin in the 75th minute, sending the Bundesliga surprise package into the DFB-Pokal semifinals for the first time in their history.
